Collages 2 Nov 24

Cindy Tonkin - November 18, 2024

Continuing with collages that randomly fall out of the other series I am working on.

This is technically a Fractured collage, but isn’t. It’s on craft paper, where I experimented with monoprints on glass a few months ago. i cut a grid on the cricut without really measuring and it was too wide apart (maybe 1 cm), so i played with making it smaller by shading it in. they turned into windows (or doors), which are common in my work (have a look at the windows in my houses theme here).

because i didn’t clear off my desk and i was rooting through national geographic saved images to find things to fracture, I had to make these. been hanging onto the barber poles for a long time!

This Domayne ad has already featured in my work (see here, 2nd image in the gallery). I changed the wall colours, and different animals live here now (look for the trout in the armchair). I mean the stuff was all there…

And this one probably isn’t finished. It’s an image i took and printed out when i wanted to make my own book of Paris (rather than pay a million bucks for a Flammarion or a Taschen one I saw in a homewares place). I have dismantled it. It’s the bottom of the Eiffel tower, against an image of a city in the US, an image of a notebook i have had saved for a hundred years, and the blueprint of the Bathers’ Pavilion from another beautiful picture book I DID buy when i saw it in a homewares store. The yellow squares are i think timber at a timber mill or similar from National Geographic.
