January is a month of clearing stuff out from my studio, partly because I tried to spend 4 – 6 hours a day in here, especially during the week when normally I’d be at Sturt working on art for the whole week.
These index cards have been hanging around for ages, and I had no plans, except that I considered throwing them away a number of times.
So while watching some episodes of Virgin River (a 6 season soap opera which has accompanied much of my art journey this week), I stuck down some orange and blue photocopy paper and made a pleasing concertina.
While I suspect somewhere in my world is the rest of the index card alphabet and numbers, I didn’t even look, so this is a shortish book. I found a lovely short poem in my evernote stash* and married it to the pages. I certainly “get” the feeling of this poem. I still miss my ex-husband a lot and it’s been years.
I had seen Gary Smith’s long concertina from index cards the day that I began this – Gary’s Sushi themed book is much longer; he showed BAG the 3rd iteration of the book – i saw it first in 2012, and it was already round 2 of a 2006 book. Now in 2025 he’s updated it again!
*My evernote stash is where i screen shot or copy poems which drift across my radar on Facebook, Instagram, Austin Kleon’s newsletters or even books i read.
