John Olsen in Sydney

Was quite affected emotionally by the John Olsen exhibition at the AGNSW this weekend. Some of his works are just pure joy on canvas. Just a few feel simultaneously overworked and unfinished (but the joy still shows through). And there’s a very strong through line in it all echoing Fred Williams, Brett Whiteley (who’s echoing whom? I can’t say).
