This is my piece for Book Art Object.
I’ve written about it here, here and here, and worked through a few ideas not related to this piece here.
This morning i recorded the videos below, with the piece seated on an encaustic page, with notches to embed the pages to make it display. you’ll see that the display worked well, but i wasn’t happy with the encaustic.
In my head the encaustic was the sand on the beach, and the box fold was both the birds movement and the dawn. But the colours did not please me.
So I’ve made a new set of belly bands and a new base in lilac. doesn’t fit with the story, but it does work much better colour-wise – having to sacrifice concept for beauty! Here’s a video I made demonstrating the new one.

A short video of me unwinding the folds: I changed my mind about what i was going to do, having already folded 66 samples of the box fold. So i had to undo everything and start again!
