Curled once about the house

Cindy Tonkin - March 17, 2017

As the kimonopoly series moves forward it becomes less and less about monopoly and more and more about the houses (and in this case windows of houses) it has evolved into.

Today I finished this piece.

It’s several layers of acrylic (which originally had tiny windows in it) overlaid with layers of oil pastel window shapes, whitewashed, and then some more windows drawn back in with pastel.

I looked like this before I whitewashed it

And the final piece looks like this:

I called it Curled once about the house, which is a reference to The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock by T.S. Eliot. The piece looks like fog or rain, and in Lovesong, Eliot likens the fog to a cat who curls once about the house and then sleeps (it’s line 22 if you care)!

It’s about 100x60cm on canvas. Acrylic and Oil Pastel.
