All good things end. You’ve given me 2 weeks deposit, which means I expect 2 weeks’ notice when you plan to move out. Talk to me about it. When you move out, here are some things you’ll want to get sorted out.
- Forward your mail
- Get your deposit back
- Clean the room
- Clean and empty the kitchen
- Empty the bathroom.
Here’s some tips and expectations on these.
Forward your Mail
Please go to Australia Post and forward your mail. Here is the link. It takes more than a week to kick in, so do it as soon as you can. If you give me a forwarding address I’ll let you know if it isn’t working.
Get your deposit back
You gave me 2 weeks deposit. All bills were included in your rent, so there’s nothing to pay unless you are behind on rent.
Give me a bank account to refund any money I owe you.
Also cancel your direct deposit into my account!
Clean the room
1. Wash linens, towels, blankets etc
If I lent you linen, blankets, doonas or towels etc you’ll need to wash them.
Blankets cannot be dried in the machine because they will shrink, so you will need to work out a way to either line dry them or pay for dry cleaning.
Remember also to wash the mattress protector.
2. Clean inside the room
After you’ve moved your things out of the room:
- Please wipe inside the shelves of every cupboard and the windowsill with a microfibre cloth and cleaning spray (spray is under the sink in the kitchen, microfibre cloths in the laundry in a black bucket, under the dryer).
- Please sweep under the bed. Brooms in my studio near the inner courtyard door.
- Wipe the skirting boards.
- Dust the ceiling fan: here’s a youtube on how best to do that
- If there is dust on the walls, please wipe them. If you find mould or stains, please let me know so I can fix it.
Clean and empty the kitchen
In the kitchen please remove all food from your cupboard, fridge and freezer. Wipe inside the cupboard with a microfibre cloth and the cleaning fluid. Wipe and clean inside your shelf and vegetable bins in the fridge. If you’re leaving food behind please let me know.
The bathroom
Remember to take anything from the bathroom and laundry (soaps, shampoos, hairdryer, toothbrush, washing powder).
