Fear – Kahlil Gibran

Cindy Tonkin - March 2, 2025

Nicola ordered a heap of papers for a piece she was working on. These are the offcuts, extra papers and experiments she did, re-combined into a book.

It measures 290 x 185mm and lays flat when open to twice that.

Bound with tape and skewers (the tape is wallpaper).

The beauty in this book is the fragility of the lace-like paper as it turns the page (look at the video to see it).

I added a Kahlil Gibran poem about the river joining the sea, because the original plates Nicola used to make these prints were water-like, and so is the paper. Water “feel” happens a lot with work Nicola gives me, (see here and here) and these ones are actually plates from an image of rain on a glass roof.

This video tells you more.
