These four Parousels (carousel books about Paris) will travel with the Place exhibition around NSW. Currently at Wollongong, it moves to Orange and then to Armidale in the next few months.
I’ve made a video which outlines the panels of each one.
These are Parousels. They are carousel books about Paris.
I lived in Paris in 1989 – 1990, studying Linguistics, and living in the 14th arrondisement with thousands of other students.
These photos are taken on subsequent visits to Paris: in the 90’s I couldn’t afford to develop the films! How digital photography has changed our artistic lives. Paris has a strong place in my heart because my long-time husband and I first lived together there. We strolled by the Seine at dawn, saw films at the cinemas on the Champs-Elysees and ate couscous in student restaurants.
I love the carousel form because it not only changes the images, but each person who looks at it has the opportunity to manipulate their own view. It’s a book, but it’s also a toy for the eye.
