Make graceful and lasting change

Lisa showed us at BAG some leaves soaked for a week or so in glycerine. I had some left from making my own gelli plate (it went mouldy, i’ll do it again but with a preservative added).

I soaked some random leaves from my backyard: some eucalyptus leaves, a banana tree. Lisa had sewn onto her leaves. I tried marker.

It took me a while to work out what worked – paint markers looked good but it wasn’t improving on nature at all. But sharpies (well, Anko markers, because they come in their own tiny suitcase) actually keep some of the original colour of the leaf and make a very pleasing feeling.

I took a few frames Avril gave me years ago (i made an entire series using them) and made a tunnel-book-like structure with them.

Secured the leaves top and bottom with glue gun, then added an old piece of wallpaper leftover from a Cathie gifting.

I like how it turned out! And in retrospect it was mostly built by expertise from my Sydney Book Art Group buddies! We’ve been showing and telling now for more than a decade, and it’s amazing how much it has permeated my practice.
