Have missed my Friday art day for a few weeks now. So today I just sat down at my table and glued and glued and glued. stopping to eat, pretty much. It’s addictive and I miss it so much when I don’t do it.
Found some old Corot paintings from an art book of Betty’s when I brought a few boxes down from the attic. That and a book of Humphrey Bogart stills and publicity shots.
This series was born.
There is a lot of serendipity and unconscious competence in this: i was inspired by someone in instagram publishing a collage a day. I used to do this kind of collage a lot, did a whole training program with Andy Townsend at Sturt Summer School more than 10 years ago, and it was a lot of this kind of thing
The irony is that the one that i like most is the very first one I did. That said every one is very different, because the source materials (old ripped out pages from donna hay magazines, contact sheets from old digital photographs, other assorted ephemera) are mostly one-offs. I could maybe try and replicate the woman with a tree coming out of her bustle, and maybe I will one day, but for now it’s kinda nice to be able to just glue things.
I watched an entire 3 seasons of the Good Place while doing these pictures.
