This piece began as a map of Wollongong
My plan was to make a 2d work (something like this?), but there were so many beautiful textures that it morphed into a book. More intimate, more able to be looked at up close.
I found some A4 card and backed it.
The surface was treated multiple times:
- Nicola put it through her press
- I added some purple glaze with glossy gel medium with some bulk to it
- I collaged on some pattern tissue, then crayoned over the ridges and rises
- I cut it to size and glued it to the card, then
- sewed it zig zag (because the glue stick wasn’t working on the glossy map).
The poem I chose to go with the textures.
It’s a Mary Oliver, which as it turns out is not called One Wild and Precious life as I thought, but The Summer Day.
Some delicious textures and colour combos.
