ABD Broadcast books from the 70s and 80s inherited from my mother form the core of this piece.
Nicola collaborated with me on this one (again, thank you!), using ther leftover inks.
I glued it to some nice printmaking paper (my experience with the broadcast books is that it wasn’t great quality paper to begin with (china coated, probably about 80gsm), and after maybe 50 years it’s just not substantial enough. I keep hearing myself saying “You can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear”.
So I backed it, which means we miss out on some of the lovely turquoise / gold / chocolate interplay, but we do get to see something and it won’t fall apart!
The quote is by Wislawa Szymborska talking about inspiration, and i even managed to align some of the illustrations to work for the words!
I matched the font that was used in the original books.
concertina, in a wrap made from card board and wallpapers.
