Away at Pearl Beach for the week.
Discovered some watercolour paper in the craft cupboard, and have knocked up these pieces.
First one is a version of a picture I have in my “Make it” folder – you’ll see the original photo below, which I found on instagram.
The rest are taking the idea of how i drew that one and adding in the Richard Scarry house drawing I have had on my pinboard for several years – essentially an out of perspective drawing. At first a generic house, kinda inspired by my own, the second pretty much selected bits from my own house.
The highlight of my house include
- keys on my front verandah, partly inhabited by spiders and their webs
- the toy train set which is apparently in the smaller, second attic, based on reports by a tradie who insulated it for me
- my fireplaces
- my current grandfather clock
I tried colouring the first image with the graphic markers I brought with me, but it wasn’t pleasant to do (the paper is very rough, i’m used to smooth watercolour paper!).
So, I’ll add some layers with my watercolours when I get home (maybe).
I continued the series on the watercolour paper until it ran out, then I made some images on graph paper (because it was there). This allowed me to introduce sharpie / colour. The first one of those has incorporated a big sweeping staircase (well, i know it is), the one from Elizabeth Bay House along with some of the rooms from Vaucluse House came to mind, and gave me a template of ideas that weren’t just my own home.
But my own home continues to be an easy source of inspiration. This series isn’t done yet!!
